Mr. Carl Slayden, 85, of Hobart, Indiana and Salem, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Hobart, Indiana.
Carl was born September 6, 1937 in Lola, Kentucky to Homer and Mabel (Johnson) Slayden. He moved to Northwest Indiana where he was a Bricklayer Supervisor at US Steel for 35 years. He also worked for North American Refractories for 10 years. Carl enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of Eastlake Baptist Church, a 50-year member of Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, and was a 32nd degree Mason.
Carl is survived by his loving wife JoAnn of 66 years, he leaves two wonderful children, a son Rick (Karen), and a daughter Kathy (Mike), he has five grandchildren Shannon, Justin, Krystal, KC, and Ashley and 16 great grandchildren Jahnae, Jaiden, Shania, Brandon, Victoria, Dakota, Kaylee, Avery, Shelby, Canaan, Aubrey, Waverly, Carl, Cami, Jolene and Dawson. Surviving is also a sister, Jeanette Terry of Paducah, KY.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ruth Chittenden, Faye Bradley, and Virginia Williams; brothers, Tom Slayden, Mark Slayden, and Ted Slayden.
Funeral services will be Sunday, August 20, 2023, at 2 PM, in the chapel of Boyd Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, 212 East Main Street, Salem. Burial will follow in Pinckneyville Cemetery with Bro. Jim Wring officiating.
Friends may visit with the family from 12:30 until the funeral hour, Sunday August 20, 2023 in the chapel of Boyd Funeral Directors and Cremation Services.
