Boyd Funeral Directors had its beginnings in Carrsville, KY over 104 years ago when F.M. Boyd, in 1902, established a business which sold hardware and caskets. In 1926 the business moved to the corner of Church and Main Streets in Salem, KY, into a building owned by the LaRue family. F.M. Boyd's son Lewis became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in 1927 and joined his father's business, which became known as F.M. Boyd's Sons. Ruby Boyd joined his brother, Lewis, in 1933 and remained in the business until he moved to Florida in 1946. Fred M. and Georgia (Shouse) Boyd, right.

In 1950, Lewis Boyd built a modern funeral home, in its current location, 212 East Main Street, to serve the families of Livingston, Crittenden, and surrounding counties. Up to this time funerals were held in churches or homes.Farris Boyd, son of Lewis, became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in 1955, but due to his being called to military service in Korea, didn't enter the business until 1957. The firm became known as Boyd Funeral Directors.

In 1990, Lewis and Farris Boyd saw a need to expand the funeral home they had originally built in 1950. They then added another formal chapel, and kitchen/lounge area for families. This made the funeral home a lot more spacious for families, and each would have their own formal chapel to use.

In 1999, Andrew S. Fox, son of Charles Fox, joined the funeral home as a licensed funeral director and embalmer. Andrew graduated from the John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science, where he received the coveted Dodge Chemical Company award for Outstanding Achievement and Dedication in the Arts and Sciences of Embalming.

In September of 2001, Farris Boyd passed way at the age of 68. Farris then bequeathed the funeral home to his longtime and loyal employee Charles Fox. Charles began at the funeral home in 1971 and became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in 1975. He has spent 9 years prior before coming to work at Boyd's, working for a funeral home in his hometown of Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Mr. Fox had a combined total of 39 years serving families in their time of need.

In 2005, Charles Fox, along with his son Andrew Fox, decided that it was time to update the funeral home and make Andrew a partner in the business. Charles and Andrew had the funeral home completely remodeled, from top to bottom including new carpet, draperies, new pictures, furniture, remodeled kitchen area, lobby, sitting areas, both formal chapels, and the casket selection room. They also added a formal funeral arrangement office to better serve the privacy needs of the families when making funeral arrangements.

In 2016 and 2017, new funeral coaches, flower vehicles, and lead vehicles were added to the fleet.
